Specification support from people who have seen the block, not just the sample.

A sample tells you the colour. It does not tell you how the material varies across a lot, how it behaves at the finish you have drawn, what it will cost to maintain, or whether enough of it exists for your quantity.

That is the conversation we would rather have early, while it can still change the drawing. A material chosen at concept and confirmed at tender is a different project from a material chosen at tender because it was the one available.

What follows is what we actually provide, and what we deliberately do not.

Materials

Specify what will actually arrive

Every stone page states the finishes and thicknesses we can actually supply, and the applications we recommend, qualify or advise against. Where an application is conditional, the condition is written out — because "suitable with care" is not a specification.

Where a claim would need a test to support it, we do not make the claim on the website. We issue the data for your lot instead — because a figure measured on someone else’s block is not a specification, however confidently it is printed.

The practical consequence for a specifier: nothing on these pages will be contradicted by the delivery. That is a lower bar than it sounds, and a surprising number of stone websites do not clear it.

Questions

What architects ask at concept stage

  1. Can we get samples?

    Yes — ask a specialist and they are sent. There is no self-service sample basket on the site yet, and we would rather say that than build a form that quietly emails the same person. For a material where variation is the whole question, a single sample is a starting point, not an answer: ask for slab photography of the actual lot as well.

  2. How early should we involve you?

    At concept, if the stone is doing something structural to the design — a bookmatched wall, a monolithic desk, a large single-material floor. Those depend on what a block can yield, and that is knowable early and expensive to discover late.

  3. Will you write a specification clause?

    We will give you what a clause needs: finish, thickness, variation range, applicable tests and the conditions attached to an application. We do not write the clause itself — it belongs to you and it has to survive your contract, not ours.

  4. What do you need from us to answer accurately?

    Areas and quantities, finishes, thickness or fixing method if fixed, the delivery window, and the destination country. Drawings help more than mood boards: they change which blocks are suitable.
